Sound Emergency Medicine has designed this fellowship for family and internal medicine residents to gain valuable experience and become leaders in the emergency department.

Why Sound Emergency Medicine?

Our goal is to ensure our emergency medicine providers have all the tools and processes necessary to be successful at the bedside. We understand that you didn’t attend medical school to become an average provider. You have given all of your time and effort to perform your best, and it is our responsibility to support your success. While we may not be the largest emergency medicine provider, we are the fastest growing and actively invest in our providers to reach their full potential.

 

About the Fellowship

The Canyon Vista Emergency Medicine Fellowship Emergency Medicine Fellowship was created to train non-emergency medicine residency graduates and provide them with the experience and knowledge to become successful leaders in the emergency department through a rigorous clinical and academic 12-month training program. The fellowship is accredited through the American Academy of Physician Specialties (AAPS) and the American Academy of Emergency Physicians (AAEP). In addition, the fellowship is a part of the Midwestern University Graduate Medical Education consortium and receives support and academic and clinical oversight from MWU.  Our EM Fellowship graduates will be eligible for board certification in emergency medicine (BCEM) through the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS). In addition, participants will receive the following:

 

  • 1 Fellow starts every 6 months (Jan 1st, July 1st) with a maximum of 2 active Fellows in the program

    • 10 months community emergency medicine rotations (rotations at CVMC)

    • 1 month dedicated pediatric emergency medicine rotation (away rotation)

    • 1 month dedicated trauma emergency medicine rotation (away rotation)

    • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Certification

    • 1 week advanced airway course (off site)

    • 1 week emergency ultrasound course (off site)

    • 4 hours of faculty led didactics weekly

    • EM Board Certification Written and Oral Examination preparation

    • Cardiac arrest, Acute Coronary Syndrome

    • Respiratory failure, respiratory arrest

    • Sepsis, Severe Sepsis, Septic Shock

    • Acute Congestive Heart Failure

    • Major and minor trauma

    • Intentional, unintentional toxic overdose/poisoning

    • Diabetic ketoacidosis

    • Acute psychiatric conditions and suicidal ideations/suicide attempt

    • Obstetric and gynecologic emergencies

    • Pediatric emergencies

    • Acute Angioedema management

    • Hazardous material exposure, disaster, or mass casualty events

    • Fulfill 14 x 12hr shifts per month (average)

    • Attend 4hr didactics weekly

    • Complete EM Board Certification assignments

    • Attend 1-month Away rotations for Pediatric EM and Trauma respectively

    • Attend away courses for Advanced Airway, Emergency Ultrasound and other training as assigned by the program director

    • Complete the American College of Surgeons ATLS course

    • $100K Salary/yr

    • Medical, dental, vision and other insurance as provided by Sound Physicians

    • Coverage of all travel, lodging, course fees for all mandated away rotations and courses

    • Coverage of online EM Board Preparation course and materials

    • 2 sets of scrubs, 2 white Lab/physician coats

    • Post-fellowship career opportunities at Canyon Vista Medical Center and other Sound Physicians emergency medicine clinical sites

    • Canyon Vista Medical Center in Sierra Vista, Arizona

    • External 1-month long rotations in both Trauma and Pediatric Emergency Medicine are hosted by Level 1 Training facilities in nearby Tucson, Arizona
